Design your curriculum & prioritize your training projects to
provide the best path to meet your training objectives.
Curriculum Design is one of the most important factors in defining the success of any training program. This entails identifying target audiences and learning objectives of each. One key in this phase is to also identify what I call “Learning Events” for your different audiences. Technology users have different expectations at different phases of adopting new technologies and hence different learning expectations that have to be identified & met at each of those phases. This might be a high level overview up front, but then deeper more technical topics as they gain more experience with your products. It also has to consider the type of user, from those who just consume the results of your products, to those who administer and manage the technologies.
Considering all of these when designing your curriculum will help define appropriate learning topics and what order to convey them in. But it’s not just creating an outline of topics, but also choosing the best methods and artifacts to use to convey the knowledge needed for each topic.
By considering all of these aspects of curriculum design, you can better define content, exercises and learning experiences to maximize the learning opportunities for each audience & topic.
