Strategize

Start your Training Strategy by Identifying your Objectives, Designing Curriculum & Defining Projects to Meet those Objectives.

Developing a sound Training Strategy is critical for those just starting a training organization, but also just as important when having to redirect a training organization to meet ever changing landscape of learning and remote workers.

When you want to replicate training to be delivered by others and/or expand the topics covered for an ever changing audience, it becomes clear it’s time to better plan and organize your curriculum & content. That’s where building a training strategy comes in. A good training strategy should contain the following:

  • Define a Training Vision & Goals to Guide Your Team’s Decision Making
  • Set Clear Training Objectives that Align to Your Goals & Vision Such As:
    • Defining if the Training is Revenue Generating, a Cost Center or Cost Recovery Model
    • Setting Goals of Customer On-boarding, Customer Retention or Reduce Support Cost
    • Defining the Differing Audience Needs (Technical vs. Business Users)
  • Curriculum Design Elements Including:
    • Clear Objectives
    • Course List
    • Target Audience for Each Course
    • Elements & Outline for Each Course
  • Investment & Budget Considerations:
    • Dedicated Trainers, or Utilize Existing Subject Matter Experts
    • Dedicated Course Designers or Contractor’s
    • Resources – Software, Hardware & Web Services

Part of the training strategy process should also include defining metrics to measure success towards the learning objectives. Are the students learning what they need to, and are they retaining that knowledge well after the training concludes. By understanding the metrics to use, you can better prioritize which items to focus on first.
